Hello all!
I recently got an AMD Vishera 8350? I think. It was in a 'dead' machine so I just plucked it out. The machine belonged to a friend who complained about slow OS bootimes, unstable idle usage, and a few other ticks. I wondered if the little ah heck I have could have been the problem, and if it is even worth making a build. Oh, forgot to mention he was using a Gigabyte Micro ATX AM3+ UD3-something motherboard if it is of any importance?

Solution
that revision of the board supports the 8350 out of the box as there is only one bios for it currently. It could be the cpu, but really boots times are not just with the cpu, could be an older hard drive, the idle thing could be cool n quiet which underclocks to save power, or windows parking the cores, which i have yet to see happen with my 8320, but i have high performance mode on with win7 and cool n quiet off so my clock speeds are always at 4ghz.

So try too disable cool n quiet in the bios, and in the power savings in windows control panel set it to high performance, and just type in power in the start button search bar or metro, matters on the OS ur using.
The only Matx motherboards in the matx form ffactor are the 760g chipset boards and some do not support the 125watt cpus like the fx 8350. Some dont work at all with the boards and some boards will drastically underclock and undervolt the cpu to get it too boot. SO it could of been the board, with out knowing exact model and revision of the board will tell if it supports the cpu or not. As there are plenty of lower end boards that some revisions supported the cpus and others did not but most likely if its a am3+ board it must be the 760g chipset to be micro atx. If its not a 760g chipset and a am3 mATX board then could be the socket but need to be specific on the model and revision when asking for help.

Cool'N'Quiet seemed to be the bane of my build, for the most part. Still slow on the boot, but as you said, could just be the old clunking hard-drive. Idle numbers are way more tame now.
Thanks!
