Whats up guys, I'm here to ask for some advice on weather its worth the money to upgrade my old Rig or just sell it and build one from the ground up.

Some Back Story: So about 3 years ago I had to move out of my home into a smaller place for personal reasons so I had to store a whole lot of my stuff, one of them being my Computer. I bought a decent "Gaming" Laptop, because no one wants to go without gaming right?
Its actually a really good Laptop, I've been using it since then and its held up incredibly well. Recently, I was able to move in to a bigger place and have room for an actual Comp :D  I know you might think, "But you already have a "Decent Gaming Laptop" why buy a whole new set up?" Well, my laptop is great, but I know its got nothing on an actual gaming build.

So to the point of this thread..
My old build:
Operating System:
Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium

CPU Type:
AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 245 Processor

CPU Speed:
2.92 GHz

System Memory:
4 GB

Video Card Model:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560ti

Video Card Memory:
2.72 GB

Power Supply:
CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 V2 600W

Desktop Resolution:
1920 x 1080

Hard Disk Size:
931.41 GB

Would it be worth it to Upgrade this setup to run new games at the highest settings possible to run smoothly?
or make some pocket money and sell this to build a completely new rig?

I have a decent budget of around $2k for upgrading, or $2k + whatever I would make from selling this old rig to build a new one.

Man, that was alot of typing... :p  I sincerely appreciate all of you guys' help on this. :wahoo:

Eh I dont think so. The anthlons chip socket is the fm2 board iirc. Which is not really worth it for a gaming rig. Only really fm3+ boards from AMD are worth it imo. As the FM2 boards are all apu chips iirc

The build is not too bad, but like everyone else suggests, get a new CPU + motherboard. The GTX 560 ti is not too bad, but it's newer counterparts would definitely be more efficient and consume less power.

Another stick of 4GB RAM would be good too

You guys are wrong, he is on the AM3 chipset. He can upgrade to the Phenom II X4 965 BE and GTX 760/770 also add another 4gb of RAM and you have a very viable system for gaming

For your money you need to swap to intel and get a new rig.
Not worth it to upgrade that, you'll have to change everything to run new games smoothly on high settings.

Not completely true either. Swapping into an AMD fm3+ rig would not be bad. The intel rig would be more future proof though if you wanted to buy an i3 processer so long as the MoBo was good.
