Hi everyone,

I was planning to get a 780 tomorrow but I put my plans to a halt, due to two things:

The announcement of the new additions to the 700 series of NVIDIA (790, etc) and the Maxwell release. All I am really wondering is the following: is now the good time to make a long-term purchase, or is a price drop or great release going to hit in the coming 2-3 months? Any insight would be appreciated!

Solution
The new additions to the line up will not affect the 780 price as both of those cards will be $1000+ cards. The 800 series does not have a set date yet so as to when it will be released is any one's guess. The 780 price will stay stable at $500 for a long time, especially since its competitor, the 290, has inflated prices due to mining.

It will not come tomorrow/in a week/month, i remember i wanted to get second GTX660 to sli, ans even when 760 was out, 660 didn't drop very much, yes it has become cheaper but not much..

It is always like this with hardware, either You buy something for the current price and after month or three it get's " bit outdated" either You wait all Your life for the perfect piece of hardware :)

BTW, what You intend to use GTX780 for? What is Your set-up, what resolution You play on?

For 1080p it is really not necessary, and if You have something to play on don't rush Your purchase.. Buy what will be on stage when You will be ready to buy new monitor, it will definitely be a bit cheaper later... But You can get in situation when something new will be announced in 1-2 month after summer :)) It is closed circle You know :))

UPD: Untill summer some Maxwell based VGA could be out, so You could get latest one then.

That is true but I'm looking for a solution now as well. I do appreciate the advice though. As you mentioned if I keep waiting I'll always be in the same situation ;)

but in your opinion is a 780 a good single card choice for let's say the coming 3-4 years?

I believe it will, at least for the moment You don't have other choice if You not considering cheaper 770 and AMD solutions. I thing main game industry problem that it is limited by consoles more and more, and as they getting closer to PC architecture but still can't outperform PC most games will be made multi-platform and will get less and less eye-candy for top hardware.
