PC freeze at USB plugin

Hello,

I am having an intermittent problem that I would greatly appreciate help in troubleshooting.

Problem: Occasionally when I plug in various USB devices into the front USB port on my PC, the PC immediately freezes. No errors appear on the screen; nothing changes on the monitor and the PC is unresponsive to everything except a hard reboot. This happens less than 50% of the time, and it seems to happen with any of the 4 devices that I usually use: a USB flash drive, USB headset, USB xbox controller, and USB SD card reader.

My specs:
ASRock H77 Pro4-M Mobo
Intel i5-3470 CPU
Win 7 Pro 64 bit OS
8GB DDR3 1333 MHz RAM
MSI AMD 7790 GPU
Corsair Carbide 200R Compact ATX case
Corsair Builder Series CX 430 Watt ATX/EPS 80 Plus PSU

For what its worth, I am running two optical media drives (a blu-ray writer and a DVD writer w/ Lightscribe) and 3 hard drives (120GB SSD for OS & core programs, 250GB recycled laptop HDD for docs and secondary programs, and 1 TB desktop hard drive for media files).

Any suggestions on what may be causing this problem? Or how I might go about troubleshooting it? I'm guessing it is motherboard related, but it could very well be a number of things I suppose.

So far I have not noticed any side effects of this problem... I simply do a hard reboot and usually am able to plug the USB device in and it works on the next try. However, it is obnoxious and I am concerned about the potential problems of too many hard reboots.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Jim
