Hard disk drive not detected, but HDD comes up in the bios.

I got a new graphics card, it was too big for my case without a minor modification, so I took out everything except psu and DVD drive, took a hacksaw to a small area where metal juts out to allow room for the new graphics card. I then rebuilt the pc, turned it on and it worked fine. I installed the graphics card drivers and turned off the computer. I came back an hour or so later to test it out and when I turned on my pc I got 2 failed boot attempts saying 'no hard drives detected', the screen then went black. I can get into my bios before the point of the black screen, I have tried changing the SATA ports to IDE from AHCI in BIOS after a google search among other failed solutions. I also put the old Graphics card in to see if it was anything to do with that or the PSU not having enough power to run the new one, I am still getting the error and cannot get into my OS in any way. I am thinking that this may be my mobo running erroneously but that is just a guess.

Any help would be be great. Thanks.

Also ever since I first built my pc the, no hard drives detected error, was thrown on a 1st failed boot attempt every time, it always worked on the 2nd so it never bothered me before.

Build originally was:
Corsair Vengence RAM 4gb 1600MHz ddr3 x2
Asus sabertooth 990fx mbo
Seagate barracuda 2tb sata 6 HDD (data)
Amd Sapphire Radeon HD6670 2GB ddr3 GPU
Powercool 850w 80+ standard PSU
SanDisk 120gb SSD 6gb/s sata 3 (os)
AMD FX-8150 8core - 3.60ghz CPU
Asus DRW-24BST DVD drive

Replaced GPU with:
Asus GTX 770 Nvidia GeForce 2gb DDR5

May I first say, your stupid ;), cutting bits of metal out of a case without first stripping down the complete system and then not ensuring no metal fillings are removed, is just asking for trouble and you got it.

Well, with it being a Seagate and they do have a habit of just dying, I would download Seatools from Seagate and run a diagnostic check.

Yeah i took the Seagate out, and tested it with just the Sandisk SSD (which contained my OS), still same error. It worked when finished once, also I tried putting in the old GPU with no results. if it was the PSU then the old GPU would still work, in theory. Im thinking its the mobo as the disks are being picked up in the bios. The PSU was far from the point of sawing, and from what i saw no filings got anywhere near it. case was then hovered to ensure no ilings got on any other components. *You're stupid :p

Try a clear cmos, either by the right jumper or by removing the motherboard battery for a longer period.

[strike]Did you try to boot with just the ssd? I assume this has your os on it.[/strike]
Did you try to boot with any bootcd like hirens or a linux cd? Just to see if that will boot.
Did you rebuild the system to check if there's just something not well connected?

i took most components out of mobo and plugged them back in. when i get home from work im going to take all components out, dust them down to make sure no iron filings there. Update BIO just to see if it helps. If these fail il try a boot from CD to see how it goes. Thanks. I wil post at roughly 6-7 GMT to give you an update. :)

After updating the BIOS, taking out every component, dusting them with compressed air still no luck. The error screen now states:

"USB Devices total: 0 Drive, 0 Keyboard, 1 Mouse, 0 Hub.

Detected ATA/ATAPI Devices..
SATA Port1: Sandisk SDSSDX12OGG25"

so it seems that my motherboard is picking up the HDD but not as a drive. THe keyboard is also plugged in despite what the error screen says. Im unsure of what to do at this point. Is there any setting in the bios that can change this?

It seems that the ssd is detected.

This probably is about external drives.

Did you reset the bios to the optimal default values after updating?
Did you also check time and date in the bios?
What happens if you use a different sata data cable? Or switch with the one from the dvd player.

You see i'm kind of guessing, but it's a tough one this problem of yours.

I also noticed this from your first post,

so maybe it's a problem with the ssd or motherboard.

Have you checked for firmware updates for the ssd? look at the sandisk site for the "how to".
