Hi,

I can't seem to get my i7 4770k stable.

My specs:

i7 4770k 4.3/4.4 ghz
Gigabyte z87x-ud4h
Crucial ballistix sport (Running stock)

So im new to overclocking this processor and the problems i have is insant bluescreens. With my last processor (i7 950) it would usually fail threads in Prime 95 stress test. Now however this has not happened once in 100 of different settings.

Right now I am at:

4.3 @ 1.18 vcore, 4.0 ghz uncore. All else auto. (Prime 95 bluescreens after 7 hours..)
4,4 @ 1,25 vcore, 4.0 ghz uncore. All else auto. (Prime 95 bluescreens after 5 hours..)

So is this instant bluescreen normal with haswell or does it mean something? Not ONCE have i gotten threads that fail.

note: i have run aida64/occt for about 3 hours each without problems.

Thanks in advance!

Well if there are instant blue screens or lock-ups, eventually your overclocking is not stable, doesnt matter how long you try the stability programs, real world applications will tell you if the overclock setup is stable or not. and since every chip is unique some other person's overclock setup may not work for your chip at all...

I'd say raise the core voltage. and try like this... plus aida is not really stressful software anyways, try intelburntest v2 or prime95

mult: 43x
vcore: 1.25V
(this is what Asus engineers advise, there was topic/interview related to overclocking Haswell)
if its still unstable raise voltage to 1.268V or keep the voltage at 1.25v but drop mult to 42x

let the rest stay on default/optimized whatever...

multi 43x
vcore: 1,25v

wow that seem high! I though my chip was bad but if thats normal than maybe its not.. Do you have any link to the topics/interviews?

Thanks

well actually its not that high... when you leave the voltage on auto and speedstep kicks in voltages usually jump somewhat higher values... esp. if you consider the fact that auto speedstep only pushes the cpu up 3.9G.

in that thread, asus people said that to understand if your chip is above the average or below the average overclocking line, this is the mid-point.

well for instance my 4670K can operate on 1.250V with 42x stable, but for stable-43x I have to raise the vcore up to 1.268V. I've been using the system stable like this for 6 months already with 68-72C (max) under daily/gaming load and without single lockup or blue screen.
for 44x I had to push up to 1.3V and wasnt even stable... (I assume I was really unlucky lol)

Its been a long time since I read the thread but it may be on "overclockers" forums or here in Tom's... I am not sure.

There is a nice walkthrough in here from RoG to overclock Haswell...

OK thanks, I will look into that guide. I guess my chip arn't as bad as I thought. I have read people getting 4,5-4,8 at 1.25 stable so assumed it was really bad. I will try 1.25 on 4.3 and se if it works.
