Today I was searching for r9 280x gpu that I'd really like to buy and this caught my attention:

how long has this been on the market?
It's not TOXIC edition, it's just TRI-X.

Take a closer look at the box, it's no longer purple "dual-x" one (http://i1-news.softpedia-static.com/images/news2/Sapphire-s-Radeon-R9-and-R7-Graphics-Card-Collection-389341-5.jpg?1381233653)

The 280x is not very common and is quite overlooked. People generally go for the 270x or the 290x

Who cares what you think, the 280x is a great performer in games and is well worth the money

R9 280x is a rebranded 7970ghz and preforms nearly as good as a gtx770 (which is a rebranded 680), depending on the game.
The tri-x uses the same cooler as the toxic but probably without the big over clock or lesser quality components, still worth it of course :D

I, and probably most people here, know that 280x is rebranded 7970ghz edition and that it has been out for a while now, but I was asking about r9 280x with tri-x cooler, because I've never seen that one before. I've seen Sapphire's toxic version, Dual x version, and I've seen TRI-x cooler on r9 290, 290x and 270x, but never on r9 280x (non toxic) card.

Since most of the r9 280x are sold in the same second they get "in stock", I would go with GTX770, but that 2gb vram vs. 3gb vram on 280x really bugs me.
