I am looking to upgrade my PC (used 90% of the time for gaming) and I was wondering if I should purchase the i7-4770k or wait if there is a newer version coming out. I will need a new mobo as well since right now I am running AMD. Also, I know the i5 is generally better for gaming, but since I am looking to stream my games I decided to go with the i7. The main reason I am wondering if I should get the i7 now is because it's 4-cores and I wasnt sure if Intel was coming out with a 6 or 8 core.

Any help would be awesome!

current specs (let me know what I should upgrade)

a10-5800k
radeon hd 7870 (replacing)
730 watt PSU
(cant rememeber the mobo but I'm obviously replacing)
8GB 1866 RAM

6-core Intel's wont be hitting the market soon, and when it does it will be expensive like 2011 socket's. So its unlikely you'll get one.

Well in my opinion, your system isnt so bad, with some overclocking 5800K should be able to show good performance for any game in the market. Your 7870 should be sufficient as well. But you could try overclocking that one too...

So, I think its better to wait 2nd or 3rd quarter of '14. Lets see what manufacturers will serve us... Your system aint bad at all... Just needs some overclocking.

then maybe you should look for a 4670K and save $100~ and so you can save up for a better graphics card. Cause gaming performance of 4770 and 4670 is totally the same, and the real gaming performance is mostly related to the gpu as you may know already.

at least that makes more sense to me in this way, however i7 is better for more threaded applications, which I believe is non-essential for gaming.

I am using i5-4670K and even with stock speeds it is a top notch cpu for any game in the market like bf4, cod-ghost, crysis3 or cpu dependent mmorpg games like wow, neverwinter, guildwars2 etc...

I've been using the rig in my sig for 6-months already, and I am totally happy by not choosing the 4770K.

If he will be streaming he will see a great performance increase going form the a10-5800k or even the i5-4670k to an i7-4770k.
Streaming and gaming will require some more threads.
Haswell-e is going to have a 8c/16t processor, but will have a price-point at $1000(this is what I believe as all other extreme processors have been at this pricepoint).

exactly, there isnt even 1FPS difference, if we are talking about gaming.
but as you say if streaming is what you do, then i7 can be your choice.

Well... I really doubt it unless you can show us some test results, which I havent seen yet. The difference may occur if the game is optimized for more cores or threads though...
