I have a problem with my sound. I can't hear my system sounds or the audio from games but when i look at the volume bar it goes up and down. In the browser there is no problem with sounds. But i don't have sound anywhere else. How do i fix it?

First off, What OS are you running?

If Windows 7, Can you open up the playback devices and look for how many devices are present and how many are enabled or 'ready'? Make sure that one of them says "Default". While I've never seen it where there is no default perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. :(

If this is Windows XP, I have forgotten too much of it. :( But the above is Windows 7 steps are similar.

I wouldn't jump on the sound card at this point. How many games and which ones? Are these very old games, commercial games such as Diablo 2 or 3, or lower-quality games for the kids?

Yes I'm running Windows 7, I have 1 device which is set to default which is the speakers. It can't be the sound card because in the browser every sound is ok. What happened really is that i had an amplifier and 2 speakers i disconnected them for a while because i gave them to my brother for his birthday party before that i could hear everything fine, but after that i could hear only the sounds in the browser and nothing else. :) The games aren't old and yes they had sound before i disconnected them. :)
