Hi, i have a new Asrock Z77 Extreme11 motherboard and wanted to purchase some high quality RAM to go with it. I have heard that it is good to go with tighter timings over higher frequencies, is this true? I dont use photoshop, i mostly play games and do a little bit of encoding on the side, but primarily games. Which one of these should i get? Here is the list of compatible memory :

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?cat=Memory&Model=Z77%20Extreme11

I am looking at 16gb to be totally future proof for another few years, but if the 16gb dual channel options are limited and there are some good 8gb kits instead then i am open to sticking with 8gb as well. Price isn't too much of a concern currently.

Thank you in advance!

Edit : Using an i5-3570k CPU which i have overclocked to 4.4ghz

With the video work might want to at least go to 1866/8-9 or 2133/9 for the extra bandwidth, might also add 1-3 FPS in gaming, with the Rock mobo would look at GSkill's Trident X, Sniper of Ripjaws X lines of DRAM - if you go 16GB go with a 2x8GB set opposed to 4x4GB (less stress on MC) or 2x4GB for 8GB total - I'd go the 16 if possible, prices aren't likely to drop, in fact they will prob continue to rise

What CPU and if OCable, will you be OCing? It's actually a combination of low CL and freq, neither stands alone as far as what your preference should be on DRAM i.e. 1600/9 has a CL of 9, but will get stomped in performance by 2400/10....Let me know about CPU and what you'll be doing with the rig and can give some good suggestions

I am using an Intel i5-3570k CPU and have overclocked it to 4.4ghz. I plan on gaming mostly, with a little bit of video encoding work on the side, but mostly just gaming.

How about these? Would they be compatible with my motherboard to work with the timings/frequency listed?

http://www.primeabgb.com/gskill-trident-x-f3-1866c8d-16gtx-ram.html

They do not show up in the list, and i am worried they will revert to 1333mhz speed since they are not officially supported.

Alternatively i found these that are pretty solid from the reviews. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231503

However, they state that its a quad channel kit with 4x4gb sticks. Would that be ok on my motherboard? I am assuming so, since it shows up in the compatible memory listing. However, since my motherboard doesnt support quad channel, does this default to 2 separate dual channel sticks or will all 4 run in a single channel? Will i see a drop in expected performance since i am not running them optimally, in which case should i not consider buying these for my motherboard?
