Swapping drives on the same computer

My desktop has two internal drives. The boot drive has failed. Besides swapping the relative positions on the jumper cables, the drive ribbon cables and the power cables, what else needs to happen? The OS is WIN XP Professional w/all the service packs. The CPU is a dual-core AMD, with one GB of RAM.

By failing, do you mean it doesn't boot or the drive stopped working altogether? If it's the former, you just need to repair your boor record, if it's the latter just remove the first disk and re-install the OS in the other one (yes, change the jumpers if it's an IDE drive). If you are going to re-install it, do keep in mind all data will be lost, so if there is anything you still need in the second drive, back it up using some other computer.

I must have having a stroke of some sort. That is embarrassing. Turns out, the other drive is bad as well. I will donate the DVD drive and RAM to the local Seniors Center computer lab. I have a friend with a drill press to realign the hard drives. Thank you.
