Can I upgrade my cm1630 asus essentio with an amd fx 6core?

When I replaced my old CPU with a new one I bought off the internet which is the AMD FX 6300. My Computer power light didn't come on but my computer did make similar beeps just not the windows beep. I tried updating my bios from Asus' website but when I open the zip files they don't work for some reason so any input would be great. I also have a GTX 550 TI NVidia video card.

A quick web search indicated that it can support the following processors: AMD Phenom™ II/Athlon™ II/ Phenom™/ Athlon™/ Sempron™ processor. FX processors are not listed. Also it lists your board as AM3 and the FX 6300 is a AM3+ processor. Wikepedia gives the following information regarding AM3 vs AM3+: "The AM3+ Socket specification contains a few noteworthy design changes over its AM3 predecessor. The 942-pin socket count for the AM3+ is an increase of one over the AM3 Socket's 941-pin socket layout.[2] The AM3+ Socket has larger pin socket diameter of 0.51 mm compared to 0.45 mm with the AM3 Socket." If your motherboard is truly AM3 you may have damaged the FX 6300 by bending or breaking the pin. I am not an expert and hope I am wrong. Hopefully someone with more knowledge here will chime in.

I have the same machine (CM1630) and went through a similar situation last year. The best/ most current processor you can pair with that Mobo is the Athlon X2 270.

That's what I have now and am looking at upgrading the mobo and cpu.
