Hello everyone, I've been wanting to build a solid high end gaming machine for years and finally my budget permits me to build a great machine. I've looked though parts and picked out what I want but I'm not fully sure if everything works together, if there are better priced parts with similar specs, or even if I'm missing anything. Thanks for any help, it's really appreciated.

Approximate Purchase Date: Within a month

Budget Range: $2000; After Rebates; Before shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, video watching, surfing the web, programming

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: All components (No keyboard, mouse, or monitor needed)

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, preferably Windows 7

Preferred Website for Parts: Newegg.ca

Location:Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Parts Preferences: Going for an Intel CPU, I prefer cooler master cases, and I trust asus.

Overclocking: Not immediately but plan to in the future

SLI or Crossfire: Not getting 2 GPUs at first but may expand in the future.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1440x900

Additional Comments: I'd like the system to run very cool with relatively low noise levels. I play a large variety of games but a few of the main ones would be: WoW, Starcraft 2, The Total War series, The Witcher, Men of War, Civ 5, etc.

Why Are You Upgrading: I want a dedicated desktop to handle all my entertainment needs and to play around with.

how do yo get the pc part picker thing there??????

Unless you are going into 3D rendering, you won't need an i7's hyper threading, so you can save $100 on the CPU. The i5 and i7 gaming performance difference is about 1-2 fps. I went with a mini ITX build because they are usually quieter, and the water cooling because that it much quieter. If it is still too loud, you can replace the case fans that CM gives you with something like the Noctua fans.

With some tweaking, I have this setup as well. This one includes a i7, but a lesser motherboard. If it were me, I would go with this build.

he doesnt need a 780ti, for the performance it gives over a 780, and the price increase is just too much. and my build has everything he needs at just over $1600

Josh McInstosh is putting together a Frankenstien. Stay away from the Cooler Master Elite 120. With the Components you have is a HOT BOX. Be WArned. As marc79 can't pair a K CPU with that H87 Board and you won't be able to SLI on that case either.

Sorry guys. I didn't even notice that it was not a Z87 board.

Wow thanks for all the quick responses everyone. I'm taking a look at all the posted options now, my only problem is that some are using the US part picker so the prices/locations are a little off for me. I'm from Canada so if you could use Canadian sources for the parts Jacob that would be a tremendous help. I really like what I'm seeing so far, I'm glad I asked here!

Not sure why people are suggesting mini ITX builds.

For the target resolution, even a GTX 770 will max out everything OP named, my suggestion would be to include a Full HD monitor in the budget along with a GTX 780.

So, this would be my suggestion:

Good that you take the advice on the i5 as it is sufficient for gaming.

I would probably downgrade the RAM back to 8GB.

Glad to see you choose the Crucial m500 as SSD, they're the best bang for buck out there.

Also, as you're prepared to spend a little more on the PSU, I suggest this unit instead, much better quality and it will support another GPU in the future if you decide to add it:

Power Supply: XFX ProSeries 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($134.99 @ NCIX)

With that said, you're good to go, enjoy!
