Hi,
I am looking to purchase an upgrade for my current pc setup. I wanted to get opinions on what I could possibly upgrade to from my current setup, with a budget of less than $250 if this is even a possibility.

I use this pc mostly for gaming (crysis, simcity, etc.), watching movies, and streaming to my TV.

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: current gpu= 2 HD 4870 1gb 256bit in crossfire, power sup=750w corsair.

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: cpu= amd phenom 2x4 black, cooler master haf 932 case, 8gb corsair dominator ram., motherboard is a = Asus M5A99x EVO

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: I typically prefer amazon or mostly newegg for purchases.

PARTS PREFERENCES: This is my oppinion to those who like fx cards, but I prefer to keep my gpu on the amd side/radeon/ati.

OVERCLOCKING: I would prefer to only have one video card from now on and just upgrade every so often.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080, 1920x1200

Thanks for the input!

Rodney

The PhIIX4955 is a nice processor. Still capable of gaming nicely with a bit of an O/C.
Each of your HD 4870s is about the equivelant of today's more modern HD 7750/GTX 650. So it wouldn't take too much to improve on that CF combo. Any HD 7870/R9-270X or better should outperform the 2 x HD 4870s enough to make a huge difference at 1080p. GTX 660/660ti or better if you prefer Nvidia.

If you want to gain even more performance, look into one of the newer FX Vishera core CPUs. The FX-6300/6350 or FX-8320/8350 will work on your MB. A BIOS update may or may not be needed. You'd have to check what you have now and what is required on the MB's web page...

Hi - To be honest, I don't think for $250 you can get much of an improvement over hd4870's in CF.

I think you need to be thinking $350 & up - R9 280x at a minimum.

Yea I was afraid of that. Well if my budget was more along the lines of 400 and below. Would this be worth looking into?

Thanks

Yes, maybe - still need to know as Clutch asked above, what phenom X II x 4 you have, there is a big spread in relative gaming performance of the various models.

Depending on your budget, card first, CPU next.
