So my HDMI cord is hooked up to my computer which is hooked up to my tv, initially the sound worked fine and then i did some updates and i awoke my computer from its slumbers and all of a sudden the sound was no longer. I went to the sound settings and some weird box thing is getting the sound output but i can't hear it (It's called Digital Audio (S/PDIF) no clue what it is). It also says that my HDMI cord isn't plugged into my TV, which it is. I have attempted restarting my computer and unplugging and replugging the HDMI cord, nothing has helped yet. Any suggestions? the silence is making me go crazy.

The Digital Audio (S/PDIF) is another digital coaxial or optical output. Sometimes when you update video drivers it will drop the HDMI as the default sound device. You sound card's (integrated or otherwise) was simple the next device on the list. Make sure your TV is on AND using the computer HMDI as the imput. Them go to sound devices and the HDMI should showup (They only seem to show up if they are actively in use) Then you can set the HDMI as the default.
