I am building a LC system with a phanteks case and still undecided with the rads. I have a ROG Maximus VI Formula that I will liquid cool as well. So I have the MOFSET, CPU, and GPU (of which is not bought yet).

So I am between LCing the Kingpin 780Ti or a R290x. Or do I wait on the Poseidon?

Here's the situation, the 800 series is going to be on a whole new architecture, meaning it will be a noticeable step up from the 700 series. If you plan on waiting for 4k, I wouldn't corner myself with a $600 poseidon of a 700 series when it is not needed right now. Look at your options when you want 4k as good 1080p performance is available now. and LC'in a 1080p is overkill, especially a temp solution.
Well the 780ti has the best performance hands down, can't deny it. If they release word on a 780ti poseidon then i would wait for that, otherwise go for a 780ti. The whole point of LC is to OC, the problem with fully enabled chips is that the OC ability really differs from card to card.

The word is that they don't plan to release a 780Ti in the genre of the Poseidon per a rep I spoke with today. And judging from the release pattern on the Poseidon, if they did release a Ti version it would take a few months longer than expected and by that time we will have the 800 class. So, maybe I should wait for that to be released?

Well, if thats the case I need one now. I have no GPU, just running with the MOBO graphics, so no gaming being done until I get a GPU. That is why I am asking for a , "what would you do?", question.

Well if it makes you feel any better even a 780ti cannot handle 4k resolution on its own, so buying a single card now won't be future proof solution for you. It should say somewhere on your manufacturer sticker on the monitor what it is, or at least its model so you can look it up. If it is a 1080p then I suggest you go with an EVGA 770, or even a 760. They will give you good quality at that res, save you money and also offer a 90 day step up program so once the 800 series drops, which should be within 90 days, then you can trade your card up to an SLI set up capable of 4k.

At 1920x1080 you don't need a 780ti or 290x solution. Go with a 770 if you have to max everything or a 760 if you want to play high end games on high and max the rest. The sole benefit of SLI is increased performance at the cost of higher heat and electrical usage for the performance. I would look into an SLI solution when a 4k monitor comes into your price range. you can then sell your card for some money still.
