Did I break it?

I just finished building my new custom gaming PC, and I can't get it to boot and I was wondering if it is likely that I broke my cpu when I installed the heatsink, it took a bit of pressure to get the clamps on the FX 8320,do you think I broke the pins?

It's turning on, just nothing is showing up on the monitor.. All the fans are running

Check the motherboard socket for CPU and check if CPU is locked properly. If the pins are broke yes the computer wont boot, if processor is getting heated it means it is working. Fans running doesn't matter really.

I have an Asus M5A97 r2.0 le, and if the cpu is hot it only means it's receiving power, doesn't necessarily mean it is functioning correctly. Right?

Right. You need a bios update, go here: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM3+/M5A97_LE_R2.0/M5A97-LE-R20-ASUS-2202.zip and update your bios with that. Just put it on a flashdrive.

My monitor isn't even powering on, so just put that on a flash drive and boot? I have Rufus on this USB as well

So, Ewok... download that onto my USB and plug it in and boot? like i said before, i cant get the monitor to show anything.. I feel like everything is perfectly hooked up.

When you start the computer do you get any beep sounds?
Also are you using GPU for display output or taking from the mobo?

i dont have any speakers hooked up, and the last 4 digits on the barcode of the motherboard are 1503 meaning that its version 1503, which doesnt support FX yet? so that meaning I need to update the bios?

As far as I know 1503 should support the FX 8320 processor.

And you did not answer to my other question, how are you taking the display is it from mobo or GPU?

what input are you using for your monitor?
For example when i built my rig the monitor dint turn on because it wasnt configured to accept hdmi input so i had to change that from settings.
Also (just checking) you didn't plug the monitor into the motherboard. right?

I'm going to make sure im using the right pci slot on my mobo as well, hdmi was a no go.

It should be pci express x16 slot for your GPU connection, there would be 2 of them. You can try on both

yeah, everything is plugged up correctly (99% sure).. tried with one ram slot etc... and i took out the heatsink and cpu, all the pins are in tact and a small amount of heat can be felt from it, so im pretty sure its the motherboard, possibly the GPU, but doubtful.. i requested an RMA for the motherboard and im going to head up to frys in the morning to see what they think.
