I just got my new laptop and started to game on it. I could run skyrim on high about 30 fps and tf2 on 60 and other games with a reasonable fps, but after about 2 weeks my friends asked me to play tf2 with them. (My laptop is way better then theirs.) So I hop on and make a party (also my wifi is great) with him and we load on the map and my settings are on high. I select my class and spawn in and get 7 FPS! My friend has a mac and he was playing fine. So I decide to change the settings. Med - 10 fps Low - 15 fps. So I get off the game. Next I want a new first person shooter to play so i download AVA. I put the game settings on high because I checked everywhere and it said I should be able to. I hop in a game and guess what 10 fps. I turn it down to low and 15 fps. Now I'm not sure what games I should get because it says I can run them but it also says I can run tf2 on ultra with 60 fps. Anyone know what I could do to fix this? Also for anyone thinking it was just the games, about 5 of my games do it.

Solution
I don't see why it would be an overheating issue if it was running at 60FPS just fine and now dropped to 7FPS.

Unless the FAN broke.

I'm a little stumped though. Try uninstalling the video drivers, then reinstall the latest ones for your EXACT laptop from its support site.

BTW, I find START8 to be pretty handy if you get sick of the new W8 screen.

Also I was messing with the anti aliasing and other gaming options in AMD VISION engine control center, but not sure if that did any thing, but when I went back to set them to default because I thought that was doing it the gaming option was gone.

I feel like you might have some junk files in your pc. Clean the junk you have in your pc. using utility tools to remove those junk files you have in your pc, that slow down your pc. Try terminating as many process as you can from the task manager, before playing games. Defrag your hardrives. Disable anti-virus before playing to decrease the load on your pc. Update drivers and windows. Stop unnecessary programs starting up when you start your pc. I think this is the problem that is causing lag. Try these i am sure they will work for you :) . Also scan for viruses if you haven't in-case of a virus, that might be slowing your process. Also try cleaning your laptop. Open the panel below your laptop and clean it using blower or such devices. Really it helps a lot, i did had the same problem i have overheating of laptop in just like 5 minutes of launching a game. A lot of lag. After doing all the stuff, my laptop like a super computer, especially after i had cleaned my laptop, by open the panel, and using blower.
Also try scanning your pc for viruses they might also be slowing your pc down
Hope this helps!

Didn't work but I think what is happening, just going to say this now, that this probably can't happen but, what I think is happening is that the turbo boost is not kicking in. Is there anyway I can fix this and is it possible

my control center is broken it doesn't have the gaming option, but I think that is right because after I messed with the control center this started to happen and the gaming option disappeared.

the control center is directly related to the driver, so if you think your control center is broken or something you should wipe the current drivers then reinstall the latest non beta

and as for the turbo boost, it shouldn't be it because a 400Mhz difference in your CPU shouldn't be the difference between 60+ FPS and single digit FPS. But if you want turn it on or look at the settings they can be found in the BIOS (just boot to BIOS when restarting your comp). Another option that might work is programs that allow access to BIOS functions like MSI afterburner or similar things, some people use those for overclocking so it might allow you to set turbo boost options too
