What would be a Desktop setup similar to my laptop?

I figured I would ask the knowledgeable users on here.

I know laptops are a different thing when comparing due to the mobile aspect. But I was wondering what would be equal to it in terms of desktop components. I have been very happy with my laptop, but was wondering, should I ever look to trade it for a Desktop setup what should I look for at minimum? This is also so I can compare to desktops to begin with.

Here is my laptop specs:

Intel i7-4700MQ 2.4-3.4GHz 4-core, 8-threads

16GB DDR3 Ram (Laptop can take upto 32GB)

AMD Radeon HD 8970M 4GB GDDR5 Descret GPU

I know these don't matter much but to list the rest:

128GB Crucial mSATA SSD for OS

750GB 7,200RPM HDD for games

750GB 5,400RPM HDD for Data, Music, misc.

17.3" 1080p Display

Blu-Ray drive/ DVD-Burner

Intel AC7260 Wireless Card

Wondering the comparable in AMD/ATI and/ or Intel I don't care, I am not a fanboy and only go with what is best for value.

I also wish to state that the games I play get wonderful fps, no less than 30 (which is fine by me, though I prefer 40+fps for smoother gameplay. I play Simcity (2013), Sims 3, Command and Conquer Kane's Wrath, Minecraft (with HD 128-256x Texture packs), Marvel Heroes, Borderlands (1&2), Saint's Row (3&4). They all play at 'High' or above with at least 2x AA/ MSAA. And Vsync on, where allowed. So personally it fits my usage.

I know it could be easy to just look at the highest end cpu's and gpu's and say "Oh, that will beat out what I have." But I am wondering what would be EQUAL in performance. As in you sit me in front of the desktop and I won't see no difference between it or my laptop when it comes to performance.

I may post my thoughts on what I think would be equal or even a little better then my laptop, but my goal is to find equality between the 2 worlds of Mobile Setups and Desktop setups.

Thank you for all your help!
