Was upgrading my CPU a better option?

I currently run a Radeon 7770GHz edition and an AMD Athlon ii x4 640 CPU in my computer. Today, I decided to go ahead and pick up the i5 4670k processor with MSI GD65 z87 mobo. I was wondering if this was a good upgrade for now. I also purchased a Hyper 212 evo aftermarket cooler to overclock the i5 to 4.0-4.4ghz

I am somewhat of a hardcore gamer, I stream and record videos from time to time along with editing. My main games are BF4, LoL, StarCraft 2, Diablo 3, and soon to come Titanfall.

What do you all think?

It was a good pickup, if you buy a new GPU soon.
Your old CPU wouldnt support much better than that 7770, so you wont get as much performance increase now, but it was the best long term upgrade.

You would have been better off upgrading the GPU first, IMO. That 7770 is not exactly a strong performer. Streaming requires a good CPU, so it isn't a terrible idea to have upgraded that first, but you would have noticed much greater gains from a GPU upgrade.

I plan on upgrading to an R9 280x
What do you mean by my AMD proc. won't support much more than a 7770?

That makes sense. Is there anywhere you know of that I could sell my current board and CPU for a reasonable price or do you know a reasonable price? I have the Asus 970D A3 board I believe. Its AM3+
