I currently have a 120GB SSD for my boot systems and 500GB HDD for my games. I was looking to improve load times for my gaming and was considering getting a full SSD for my gaming drive, but the cost is too d@mn high!

I mainly want to improve load times on skyrim (decent number of mods).

Would a SSHD be a good compromise (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...) or would I be better off going with a higher RPM HDD?

Thanks in advance!

Install skyrim on your current ssd.
Hybrid drives are very limited.

No, I don't want to limit my boot drive space that much.

Well at the risk of incurring the wrath of the windows 7 peeps, running windows 8.1 will save you about 25 gigs of drive space.

You've incurred my wrath. Windows 8.1 is wretched!!! Worst gaming OS for gaming. You'd be better of with linux, don't do it.

My desktop runs an i7 4770k and a 7970 ghz. The problem isn't my pc :p . I just think the software is extremely inconvenient to navigate and counter-intutive, not just for gaming.

As far as benchmarks go, Windows 8.1 is better. The UI however makes this point moot.

SO! Is a SSHD a decent improvement over an HDD for gaming?

Short answer, Yes there will be an improved load times with games, But you will lose some speed on the operating system side by losing the SSD so a balance will come into play. SSHD's have adaptive memory so if you play the same game a lot your performance may increase how much you speed up load times will depend on the game and how you set up drive. IMHO a clean install of operating system and games will yield best results.

My apology for getting snippy. It was late and there is nothing wrong with win 7, I was just pointing out the size difference. Take care

You might as well just not get an sshd, because there will be so little ssd space, you probably won't even be able to fit an entire game on the ssd bit (depending on the drive you buy). I would just get a 7200 rpm drive that can fit a couple terabytes of games, drive density makes a surprising difference in my experience.
