HI,

I am looking to build a small and very quiet machine. I am not a gamer so graphics are not that important and the main use of the machine are just general browsing / using it for remote connection to other machines etc plus watching tv/films.

I have a 120gb Samsung Evo 840 SSD that I can put in this build. My main requirements are for it to run cool and as close to silent as possible.

If any of you can point me in the right direction in terms of parts that would be great. Budget is around £200.

Thanks.

Hello
Mini itx is very good for your needs.
For your needs you can use a very simple intel core i5 or you can wait until the new generation of intel cores come out in February. if you use the newer generation they have intel iris integrated graphics and will have no problem outputting movies at 4k resolutions if you need that, but if you dont any i5 will do great for your needs.
you can use a small case such as the corsair obsidian 250d or a big case like the bitfenix prodigy (which i use myself)
you only need a 600 watt psu for your needs something like a corsair cx600
Since you aren't doing anything demanding you can use any of the socket 1150 mitx motherboards from msi, gigabyte and asrock. Asus boards are more expensive but i prefer them.
if you have any further questions please dont hesitate to contact me.

Thanks for the information so far. I have thought about the NUC but i want to be able to make use of my 2.5" ssd instead of having to purchase a more expensive msata ssd. Also for the I3 and I5 versions of the NUC it would be more than double the budget I have in mind when you add in the ram also.
