Attempting to build my first gaming pc and I would appreciate any thoughts on this setup. I don't plan on OC anytime in the near future and I would prefer to stay under $1000. I would like some help choosing a power supply and a case. Do I need a full tower or would a mid tower be fine? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
I built something similar to this(but with more peripherals, wifi adaptor, dvd drive, cpu cooler) over the holiday season and spent about the same price. Since then the prices have gone up.

I adapted my build for you since you won't be Oc you wont need the K processor and cpu cooler. You can change out the case since it's subjective but the Blackhawk worked out well for me.

This build include an SSD which not only boots Windows in about 13 seconds but also reduces load times in half for games. This setup will run BF4 at 90fps on ultra, and bf3 at 120fps on ultra

I stuck with the 3rd gen processor because the only reason to go 4th gen is for the upgrade path in the future. I don't plan on upgrading the processor for the next 3-4...

Mid tower will be fine. That's an impressive PC you have build. If you are gaming then choose intel and if you are going for video editing ,photo editing and on budget too then choose AMD . The GPU is a powerful one and will play most games at ultra with good framerates. Get a XFX 650 w Pro PSU if you want OC and the same PSU of 550W with no OC!
Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, any suggestions on a case?
And 550w will be enough? One other quick question, how much difference does an ssd make for gaming, are they worth it? Thanks again.

If you're going with an AMD CPU you really haven't got many options besides the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3. It's really one of the only great AMD boards out there and at a reasonable price.

Really appreciating all of the help, curious why people are picking the gtx 760 instead of the 770. I had that in a previous setup and people were acting like it wasn't good enough.

Gtx 770 is more expensive than GTX 760. Having One good part and other normal doesn't make a good PC . If you have Strong GPU and moderate CPU it doesn't provide that max frames that the GPU provide!

The problem was that you didn't have enough money to buy the rest of your setup unless you already have a case, power supply, SSD, and disc drive.

It's the same build. The only thing you change is the PSU, which is really cheap compared to the one from XFX.

To answer your questions about SSD, I suggest you listen to this quick video from Linus:

The 8350 is a great choice for gaming and you can't be the price to performance ratio. If you were going from the 760 to the 780 then I would say yes to forgoing the SSD but the jump from the 760 to the 770 instead of an SSD would not be advisable.

Thanks for the "best solution"

as far as PSU, I don't have any complaints with the Corsair CX600M I used. If I didn't get that for $45 new I would have gone with a XFX or Seasonic or higher end Corsair.

I noticed you chose the Gigabyte GTX 770. I also have that one but got it for $290. For $340 I'd probably go for the ASUS and EVGA as a second choice. I'm not saying anything negative about the Gigabyte but I like how the ASUS and EVGA look. They should all perform just about the same. Just avoid PNY as the warranty is pretty much non-existant.

As far as memory I'd go with G. Skills ripjaw x or Ares whichever one is cheaper. The Ares will have enough clearance if you choose to add a CPU cooler in the future.
