Internet Shows as Connected but Doesn't Work

I have browsed google and this site for solutions to my issue but I can't seem to find one.

Randomly today when I booted up my computer and loaded Mozilla Firefox webpages wouldn't load. I tried IE and it says "This page can't be displayed". When I hit "Fix Connection Problem" it says: "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (go.microsoft.com) is not responding.
All other Internet applications do not work either.

I first tried the troubleshoot on the Network Connections and it says no issues are found. I have tried the dnsflush and ip release/renew as many people suggested. Still doesn't work. I do not run any anti-virus. Malware-Bytes says the computer is clean. I have an ASUS RT-N65U router. Everything there seems to be ok. When I try to log in to my router I get the following message: "A change has been made, causing disconnection to setting page. You may made the change in changing IP address, changing port number or disconnecting Wi-Fi to RT-N65U. Please reconnect Wi-Fi and use modified IP address and port number to access setting page of RT-N65U." No settings have been changed on the router. I can access the log in screen from my laptop (which I am typing this on) and all the settings are correct. I have disabled the IPv6 in adapter properties but the issue persists.

I am not connected via Wi-Fi. I am connected via CAT6 directly into the router.

In Safe Mode with Networking I do have internet and it works perfectly.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what the problem is.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Well we can rule out an issue with your router since it works okay in safe mode. We can start with the basics to determine the cause.

Do these steps in normal mode, not safe mode.

If you have windows XP. Click Start->Run->type CMD and press enter
If you have vista/7. Click Start-> and in the search box at the bottom type CMD and press enter

First try to ping the outside..

Type ping google.com and press enter

If it works you should see 4 successful replies, if it fails

type ping 8.8.8.8 again if successful you should see 4 replies.

If the first ping works, your issue is most likely browser related.
If the first ping fails and the second works then it is a DNS issue.

Let me know what you find

The issue randomly went away for almost a week but now it is back. I was able to successfully ping google.com from the command prompt. However, no Internet Browsers (Firefox or IE) or any internet based programs have internet access.

I believe I fixed it. It looks like NVIDIA Streamer Service was somehow preventing me from accessing the Internet. I shut down the Process and my internet came back. So I went to the NVIDIA Geforce Experience and disable NVIDIA Streamer Service and all seems to be well now.

vnet,

Thank you for your tests on pinging external, then the 8.8.8.8 within cms.
I found out my problem was due to the DNS. I opened my Wireless Network Connection Properties.
> connection list items, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
> go to Properties
> change to 'Obtain an IP address automatically'
> same goes for Obtain DNS server address. Click on Obtain IP address automatically.

> if all fails, click on Advanced
> IP Settings: enter the Gateway (--> look up from one of your computers in your network)

That's how it worked for me. I had purchased a used computer of which the settings were modified on.

I had the same issue. First ping failed, and the second ping worked. DNS issue -- so i looked under the Network Adapter (Wireless Network Connection) and clicked on "Properties" and it listed the 7 or so "this connection uses the following" items: (Client for Microsoft Network, QoS Packet Scheduler, etc.), Comparing it to another working computer, the broken one had "COMODO Internet Security Firewall" listed. As soon as I unchecked that one, the Internet connection started working. I had tried to uninstall COMODO and turn it off other places, etc, not even knowing what it was. But it was causing this problem all along. In SAFE MODE, it worked, because COMODO wasn't running, I guess.

Thank you so much. I repeated your steps and they worked perfectly! Looks like I also had COMODO Internet Security checked. Unchecking it did the trick. Man I love the internet. Thanks again!
