can I change from acpi motherboard to uefi motherboard with windows 8-1

I want replace my old motherboard with new uefi motherboard for windows 8. I already have windows 8-1 installed and was wondering if I replaced the board would I have to reinstall windows.

Yes , you would have to reinstall.

Thanks I thought so. Could I still use a file backup to restore files?

Yes that is possible and a great idea , but you will need clean install.
