Windows install fails, Ubuntu works, and I am confused...

So I just bought a new Asus MA597 R2.0 and an FX-8350. I think I will enjoy the setup if I could get it to work on Windows (preferably 7). So let me do a quick breakdown and a quick run-through of what I have done.

What's in the machine:
-AMD FX-8350
-Asus MA597 R2.0
-GTX GeForce 650 Ti Boost by EVGA
-2x2GB Corsair RAM 1333mhz @ 9-9-9-24 timings
-Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR240GB-DX 240GB SATA III MLC
-Antec Earthwatts 450
-Some DVD Burner/Writer (have two and have tried both, never had probs before)
-Antec 900 Case

What I have done:
Everything is the same from my last system, which was a beast (at its time), except the Board, CPU and RAM.
I wiped the system like I have done many times before, proceeded to install Win7 (the same I have used many times for me and friends, family, customers). System got hung up on "expanding files", usually around 0-15%.
I tried swapping RAM slots, as I read due to bad memory maybe.
I tried changing RAM to Mushkin 1066 7-7-7-20 timings and manually setting it to its advertised 1333 @ 9-9-9-24 timings, both to no avail, actually, I had a different problem with the Mushkin RAM, couldn't format the hard drive at all, it fails.
Switched it back to the Corsair RAM.
Tried removing one of my HDD's (my 640gb WD Cavier Black). Tried installing onto the WD drive and removing my SSD. Both drives setup by themselves failed the same way, at expanding files.
Tried different SATA ports on the SSD.
Tried a bunch of settings for booting, and boot order, tried using everything Legacy, tried fast boot on/off. Tried pretty much everything I just said, with default settings and altered settings.
Tried Windows 8.0, from USB and CD, both failed, but without error, instead expanding get's anywhere from 1-80% and the process just stops, sometimes the mouse moves, sometimes it freezes as well.
Tried Ubuntu 11.04, worked fine.
Tried Ubuntu 13.10, worked fine.
Ran MemTest on the Corsair RAM, it passed.
Switched DVD drives, failed.

Now, I spent about 12 hours straight, with a single sandwich, eventually I got burned out and ran out of ideas. I came to the conclusion, the RAM, board, and CPU must not be the problem because Ubuntu installs, and operated normally.

Right now I am using Ubuntu 13.10 and don't think I can stick with it. I was just going to try updating Nvidia drivers and getting Steam for Linux and some other cool games, but the Nvidia drivers are becoming a mission to get installed, many of my games aren't supported like BF4 and Smite. NS2 is supposed to work through Steam, but it doesn't (probably because of Nvidia drivers which is a nightmare).

I need to have Windows working. Any idea's? The only thing I can think is I have heard people complaining about install's not working on SATA 3, having to install on SATA 2, and move the drive over. I am almost becoming certain that this could be it. I mean it's not broken, but Windows doesn't like something. Problem is, my board has all 6/gbs SATA slots, which is SATA 3 right? What do I do? This is killing me and I really want my 8 core up and running seeing as I came from an e8400 (dual core at 3.0, OC'ed to 3.6). I have never had problems like this ever.

Have you tried with a single stick of DRAM - also if installing the OS to the SSD and if the SSD is set for AHCI then have the drivers available on a flash drive and when you start to install it will ask about drives/drivers that's when you direct it to the flash drive and load the drivers

Trademan1, thanks for your help. I actually fixed it last night before I read this post, but you were right. I tried a single stick, failed, tried a different slot, it worked like a charm. If I had not tried that you would of gotten it for me, I think your knowledge deserves a "Best Solution" for your peace of mind and any others that my find this post and wonder what to do. Thanks tradesman1

Glad to hear all is well, have seen this dozens of times, have 2-4 sticks of DRAM and it doesn't want to load and go to single stick and no problems - and it's been any kind of stick from 2 to 4 to 8 GB sticks in sets from 4-32GB - though generally Win will load with whatever 2-4 sticks.... Just one of those oddball things ;)
