Specs

Mobo M5A97 LE R2.0

CPU FX 6300 3.5 Ghz

Power source Antec 620w bronze certified

GPU msi twin frozr GTX 770 2 GB

thes are the specs I think are important if extra info is required tell me

I was told that the FX 6300 will bottle neck the GPU and was suggested to overclock it.

I need to know if using the stock cooler (the cooler that came with the CPU) will let me overclock to 4.0Ghz. If yes how do I do it?

Your motherboard came with some software. One of the apps is called AI Suite II. If you installed this, all you should have to do is open it and change the multiplier (which is likely set to 17.5) to 20. If your CPU Bus Frequency is set at 200, then with the new setting you should be running at 4Ghz without having to do much else. Anything beyond that and it gets a lot more complicated and involved. Give it a shot.

I'm not sure I would run that chip to 4.0 with the stock cooler. I'm at 4.0 with the 6300 with a 212 EVO and have amazing temps idle 18-20, load 38-39. I could go further i'm sure but my cheap mobo prevents me from really going high.
