So I was overclocking my R9 270X and noticing only 1-2FPS difference, so I thought to myself that my FX-6300 was bottlenecking it. My motherboard comes with a program you can use in the OS that let's you overclock the cpu. I saw the Freq at 215 and the CPU Ratio at 7.0x. How much should I increase the ratio if I'm increasing the freq? Also, I read that 80 C is the max cpu temp you should go, is that true? Any recommendations on how I should go about overclocking would be great. Thanks.

Also, i have a 500 W 80 certified

62c is the max core temp 70c max package temps

215 on the that clock x a 7 multiplier yields you 1505mhz which is way way way lower than stock clocks. stock clocks are around 200 x 17-20(turbo)

dont use amd overdrive, use the bios for overclocking, if you really want start by raising the multiplier in the bios to 22 and set your voltage to a manual 1.36v vcore.

if you want disabling the turbo isnt a bad option and setting your multiplier to whatever you choose is a better choice for beginners since the turbo mode is hard to get right when overclocking.

watch your temps because the stock heatsink is horrible if that's what you are using

TWENTY TWO? My god, that seems like a lot. More than 2x what it's originally at. I tried setting it to 10 in the ASRock eXtreme Tuner, and my desktop went all wacky. That wasn't in the BiOS, of course. I guess I'll venture into the BiOS and try cranking it up to 8 and see if it produces the same results.

Oh, weird, for some reason I restarted my computer and it's at 17.5 Ratio, whaa. Temps are 33C and that's with the stock fan, maybe I can crank that ratio up a bit.

yea that sounds more like it, that program is not reading it right unless its reading the minimum clock for power saving when your cpu isnt doing anything,

remember update your bios if you havent already sometimes it helps with stability issues.
