Hi Everyone,

So I just had some new upgrades delivered today and installed them into my PC. Now I'm almost certain I've killed my mobo. Anyway, below are the new pieces of kit I bought.

Asus GTX 760 Direct CU II 2GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card
Corsair CWCH80 Hydro Series H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
2 x Crucial 2GB DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Memory CL9 1.5V

So after installing all the new components I plugged in the power cable to the psu which I had stupidly forgotten to turn off at the socket and I heard the cracking of sparks. Now on powering up I get no video output, no power to my usb keyboard (I've tried this on my laptop and it powers up) and the power LED no longer lights up. Although, all the fans kick in and do their business.

I also had some trouble removing the heat sink from the cpu, the thermal paste had dried to a point where when I pulled it out the cpu came out with it while the socket was still in the locked position, luckily its seems that it came away clean and all the pins are undamaged.

My mobo is (or was) an ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO and my PSU is a Corsair GS800.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Now you only have to worry about damaging the pins in the cpu socket :p

I have a power indicator on the MoBo which is lighting up (green), the PSU seems to been running fine from what I can see the fan is kicking in and the Tri-color LEDs are all operational. Don't know if this helps?

uhh, where do you have your video cable plugged into? the motherboard or the graphics card? If you didnt have a graphics card before and were using the onboard graphics, you have to plug the video cable back into the motherboard and then go into the BIOS and disable the onboard graphics/switch it to use the PCI graphics card.

The graphics card is powered from the PSU, the old card is a Radeon HD 6870 which I've switched back in but I'm still not seeing any output. Then new card also has a power indicator which has been lighting up green. So I'm assuming that this confirms the worst?

Well I took a closer look at the CPU under a light and magnifying glass and I had in fact damaged the pins, so looks like I've found the problem. Just had to fork out for a number cpu and mobo :(

Well I think a few pins are close to snapping off, so I've opted to overhaul my system and switch to a pinless chip to avoid future blunders.

Thanks for all the advice :)
