can you create system image on a partition?

my laptop has one hard drive in it (obviously)
if I partition it so it's split into 2, say they're named C: and D:
can I create a system image and save it on D:?
or does it have to be a different hard drive (whether external or internal)

Yes you can put a disc image onto a hard drive.

Now you will need to put the image on a sperate partition if you want to copy your OS drive to make a system image of it.

If this is for backup puproses you should really get a second hard drive becasue if your OS and your backup of the OS is on the same physical hard drive and that one drive fails, your still screwed.
