upon start-up, CHKDSK wants to check the hardrive(C). After many 'file... is unreadable and checking sectors, security segments & USN journal, windows starts(most times, have had a few 'an unexpected error occured' & windows couldn't start). when trying to check hardrive in 'my computer' properties, then explorer error message ALWAYS appears. I CAN'T get into 'tools' to try 'fix file system errors' & 'scan for & attempt recovery of bad sectors' if ANYBODY can give me advice, would be MUCH appreciated!!

Solution
Sounds like your hard drive is going bad. Best thing you can do is replace it and install Windows on the new drive. You can install the original drive as a secondary and copy your files off that if it will read it properly.
