So I got a desktop which is a powerfull rig (in my profile info if u are curious) however i ran into a problem, see my plan was to use my laptop in the university classes and then come home and do the more demanding stuff on my desktop, and get all the stuff i typed there, seemed like a good plan, worked for a while too, however in big classes or when i couldnt get to a batery source i found myself without power after half the day, even in low settings, so i have been thinking that maybe i should get a cheap laptop with good battery life, and my friend suggested i get a netbook, because they are cheap and less expensive than laptops with good battery lives and with more portability :p since i wont be doing much with it other than typing in my classes. So i was wondering what do u guys think?
And i have something else to ask, if i get one it will be in about 6months:
1- What brands/models should i look at?
2- How much should i be looking on spending?
3- Do you guys have netbook experience u can share? I am a gamer but this will be one pc i wont game on :p just media and school stuff (Youtube and maybe some movies on the go, and a lot of word processing, maybe even some excell stuff)

PS i am from portugal so if u could not talk about models that arent coming to Europe idd apreciate it :) Thanks

I don't know what is still available but.. I bought an Acer D257 and upgraded the memory to the maximum of 2gb. ( Windows starter won't accept anything more than that.) While it is slow I love it. I can do everything but gaming on it. I can run MS Visual Studio Express and do my development and I can watch most H264 videos. 'Most' is an iffy word. I can watch them all but not in a full screen as there is a bottle neck with the video. Youtube videos are no problem. I encode my H264 media with B-frames at 8 (crazy) and high bit rates for my HD TV. :)

I agree with the Netbook. I am not a tablet user but perhaps a tablet may be a better choice as it won't have a HD to drain power and/or it will have what you need to take notes, record video/sound.

I only get about 3 hours of battery life using the Netbook which is probably not what you are looking for.

I would be surprised to see one that last that long unless it has an SSD in it. Perhaps you might want to look into a wireless keyboard for your tablet or a tablet that also has a keyboard? Good luck.
