So, i know i could just go on the internet, and see gameplay of my graphics card too see how good it is and how well it runs. But i'd like to see how good my graphics card runs before i purchase the game. I heard there is a program called 3DMark, what exactly does this do?

Are there any/any other programs that allow me to see my fps before playing/purchasing games?

Search for graphics card benchmarks on the game you wish to play.
3dmark has its own video it runs on your pc which it uses to measure the framerate your GPU runs thier program at. It then gives you a rating which can be compared to other 3dmark ratings to give you an idea of where your card falls in the line-up.
The 7870 is a pretty strong card. What games are you planning on playing

Hi - anandtech gives a good cross section of game performance, just put your 7870ghz in drop down block
& click view single card performance.
