I am using the Motorola SBG6580 modem/router , my Ooma Telo only completes the boot up when I disable the firewall. If I leave the Motorola firewall on low, medium or high protection it will never complete the boot up and the Ooma flower will just keep blinking for days. Do I need to do something to the router fire wall to allow Ooma to pass thru?
Thank you for any ideas you have about this problem

Solution
From your router, the Ethernet cable goes to the ooma port that says "To Internet" and not the port that says "Home Network". That should connect without opening any ports.

it's been blinking orange/red all day ( the ooma that is). as I'm sitting here I logged into the modem/router went to the firewall setting, turned off fire wall and applied the change, Ooma turned blue on all icons within 2 min. and I am able to send/ receive calls. By the way, thanks so much for your prompt reply. Ooma has a list of application ports for in and out bound data and voice traffic on their website but I'm not sure where to use it. it would be good to find a walk thru for my specific modem, the SBG6580. I have time warner cable going to modem/router out to Ooma.
