This is my motherboard -ASUS P8H77-V LE LGA 1155 Intel H77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
This is my CPU - AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core Processor Black Edition
They don't seem to fit together but I may just be doing it wrong, if they are compatible I will try some more but if not I would like to know. Also any suggestions for a new one if they aren't compatible. Thank you.

Solution
yeah, no they are not compatible. your motherboard is an LGA1155 socket for intel CPUs. your CPU is an AM3+ socket CPU from AMD.

you're looking for an intel CPU if you're going for an upgrade (Intel Celeron, i3, i5, i7) or an AM3+ socket motherboard if you wanna keep the CPU.

cheapest you can get are socket LGA1155 i3's; unless the game is extremely optimized for 4 or more cores, which is currently rare (Crysis 3 being the only one i can recall), it'll perform anywhere between close to or better than the FX-6300. a Celeron is another cheaper option; they're basically lower clocked i3's with no hyper threading, though i reckon they'll perform slightly under the 6300.

the most you should spend is on a non-K i5 (i.e; i5-3570K) like the i5-3350P (you got a graphics card, right?) or an i5-3330 if you don't have a graphics card, which are currently some of the cheapest i5's currently for your socket. if you got a Microcenter nearby, check there to see if they got anything cheaper. i recalled their 3570K being relatively cheaper than a 3350P if i'm not mistaken.

do note to check your motherboard's current BIOS' CPU compatbility. you may need to update it before upgrading the CPU.

Buy a motherboard with AMD AM3+ CPU socket and sell the Intel board on craigslist or other similar sites.
