Hello,
I'm a newbie when it comes to building rigs, and recently I've put together one for currency mining. Below are the components;
GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ motherboard
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) memory
SAPPHIRE|100363BF4L R9 280X 3GB *3 GPU
32G|ADATA ASP600S3-32GM-C R SSD
AMD|SEMPRON 145 2.8G AM3 R CPU
CORSAIR | AX1200I 1200W Plat rated PSU
Windows 8.1 64bit OS
As I've said, I'm a newbie, so I stated off easy. First I plugged the first R9 280x GPU, mined for a day, was stable.
Then the second GPU, mined for a day, was stable.
Today I wanted to plug in the third and the final GPU (using a powered riser cable - couldnt fit on the mobo), and when I plugged it in, I heard a silent 'click'. That's when my heart almost stopped. The system shut off, and didn't start since. Not even BIOS screen. Just blank, when connected with analog/HDMI cable.
I've had the same problem on day1, that was because the mobo required 2 sticks of ram, and I had only one. Buying the 2nd stick solved the issue.
There was no smell, no loud POP, just a silent 'click', and that's it. So here is what I've tried so far,
-Took apart all components, inspected everything (CPU, ram, GPU connections for scorch marks - none), inspected every cable for damage, none.
-PSU is pretty good, has a 'self check' button on it, unplugged everything, runs for a minute with the power on light on.
-Mobo receives power, the CPU fan and GPU fan works, and the led on the USB wireless adapter is on. I can still power it on.
-Cleared CMOS, by shorting the pins AND removing the battery (unplugged ofc, and according to the manual).
I'm out of ideas. Googling didn't help either. It was probably the bad riser cable molex. I'm willing to listen to any suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
nui04
