Ok, so im not new to the pc scene, and have done a load of research on haswell overclocking but im having some major difficulty. From all i have read the voltages vary widely from chip to chip but to get a stable overclock im having to increase my vcore to over 1.25 just to hit 4.0ghz. My current rig is:

4670k
asrock z87m extreme4
Gskill 1866 8gb
thermaltake 600w psu
evo 212
evga 660 sc

temps stay in the 60-65c range which seems ok. I have tried to get to the 4.4ghz by setting my vcore to 1.25 override and it would only go as far as the windows startup screen the bsod with a code of 124. With the uncore clock set at 34 VCin set to 1.95 all the power saving options disabled. And my ram set to 1600mhz.

I think i lost the "silicon lottery" as everyone has been saying.

I have a few questions though. Firstly, in the uefi there is a setting for FIVR switch frequency which i tried to google but came up empty handed. What is this. and is it safe to go over 1.3v. i got the system to run on 1.3v vcore 1.95 vcin ram set to 1600. But was not stable at all. but temps where good in prime95.

o and my auto settings voltages are as follows
vcore 1.186
vccin 1.768
seems kinda high to me, should i try to reseat the cpu?

kinda bummed since i bought a "k" series cpu for the purpose of overclocking and it has a hard time going over 4.0ghz.

any help is appreciated...

ps need more specs lmk.

You may need to pump in alot of Vcore, here is a great guide to get started on below. The Haswell Series is all over the place when it comes to overclocking for instance I can overclock mine to 4.4 Ghz at 1.28 but overclocking it to 4.7 Ghz is 1.36 Vcore. at temps of 89 Celsius. (I Have a Noctua DH14) and there are people with Corsairs H100i's that can't overclock there CPU past 4.6 Ghz with 1.45 Vcore. Haswell is indeed a mixed bag when it comes to their Overclocking abilities.

I5-4670k @ 4.7 Ghz Max temps 93 Celsius on Air Cinebench Score 690

Vcore - 1.36
VCCIN - 2.00

@ 4.6 Ghz Max temp 78 Celsius Cinebench Score 671

VCCIN - 1.8
Vcore - 1.3

@ 3.8 Ghz Max Temp 45 Celsius Cinebench Score 566 (did try at lower clock speeds didnt...

Yea looks as though you may have a dud...running 1.3 and still not stable for 4.4 is a bit rough...I guess just find that sweet spot. Good news is the IPC is better than Ivy so you should get damn good performance either-way.
Also to note that it's not the best of MoBo's(not the worst either) for O.C.ing and Haswell doesn't O.C. as well as Ivy from the reviews I've read.
Did you turn on LLC by any chance?

I read that guide and ill try and bump the voltage up some more and see where I get to. Ill just watch my temps. So I could potentially go up as high as my thermal ceiling with the voltages as long as the temps stay inline. I'm gonna go as high as 1.35 or 1.4. And one other thing I was watching my 12v voltages and they went as low as 11.51. Normal?

doing some more testing and im running at
4.2 core
4.0 uncore
vcore 1.318
vring 1.215
xmp profile 2 with the gskill 1866 1.5v
vccin 1.98

man them voltages just, seem high.
running prime 95 large fft testing at the moment and getting as hot as 85c

do i have one of those high voltage, low temp cpu
