Test it with WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostic for Windows:

Ignore the drive model shown on the download page. You can test any WD external hard drive model with this software. WD just don't show this software as available for any Passport drive, but I assure you it can be tested with it. I've used it to test my Passport drive and the test ran successfully, and it didn't harm the drive in any way.
