Hello community, thank you for taking the time for answering my question. I'm going to buy a new AMD FX-8320 to replace my AMD FX-6100. since they're both AM3+ cpu's, what else do i need to know before making the switch? The MOBO is an Angelica 2 that's built into the Hp Envy machines. Thanks again!

Solution
Why not just get a 8150. It is almost the same performance as 8350. Slightly lower not much. But your motherboard was probably made when Zambezi was the thing. Im almost certain all AM3+ chips fit in that socket. That is what is so great about AMD. The versatility.

Oh man, that's a drag. I was kind of afraid of that. I figured that, since the AMD fx-6100 is a AM3+ chip, any other AM3+ chip would work in my MOBO...

Well, at Microcenter, the FX-8320 is only 100 bucks!! isn't that crazy? cheaper than the fx-6300 believe it or not. And the fx-8150's i see on Amazon are going for 190 dollars. I'm most likely going to try the fx-8320 and see if it all works out.

and yes, i have seen that spec sheet on the hp official site before, and that's exactly what i was thinking; they probably never updated the compatibility list since the piiledriver cpu's are newer than the board itself.

Thanks for the heads up! I did upgrade my psu from the stock one when i bought my GTX 660 TI. I want to upgrade it again, because i'm pretty sure my current one is on its way out. Thanks for the help! I will let you know how it goes. It's going to be a learning experience, that's for sure.

I definitely will have to check that. Since i've never updated my MOBO's BIOS, can you put me in the right direction as to how to do that?

Yeah. The PSU in our HP was only 230W and unreliable. The chip your getting is rated for 125W. You can get a Corsair 500W CX series for like 50-60 bucks. You know also you wont be able to tweak and overclock the CPU with that motherboard but you will have some good gains in processing power

vishera will not work in that motherboard, its not am3+ its am3-b

edit: I would grab that 8320 from microcenter for 100 and grab a decent 80-100 dollar motherboard if you want to overclock it (they are great overclockers) or if you don't want to overclock you can get a decent motherboard for 70ish

fantastic! yeah i asked that question too fast - i found it pretty quickly after, haha. Should i update the BIOS before or after i install the new CPU? i'm assuming before, but assumptions can lead to malfunctioning pc's....

Yeah i noticed that too with my processor. I searched online and couldn't find the difference between the AM3-B and the AM3+ chipsets. My PC came stock with an AMD FX-6100 which is an AM3+ chip, so i was thinking that another AM3+ chip would be compatible with it. Would i be wrong in thinking that though?

did not know that, learn something new everyday. What about the lack of vrm heatsinks? think it will handle the 8320?

edit: I would say grab the 8320 either way 100 is a steal (got mine for 130), if it works fine in your current motherboard then enjoy it. worst case if it doesnt, grab a decent motherboard and enjoy the speed.

TBH, i'm not sure about the lack of heatsinks...i think it's just going to be something i'll have to try and see if it works. I really appreciate your help though! I'll definitely reply here when i have the information, and we can all learn how it works, and be able to help anyone who needs this information a lot better! Thanks again.
