So I recently dug out my old dell desktop computer. I wanted to give it to my uncle so I used the Dell software restoration disks (3of them) to reboot it clean. Everythig went fine and dandy, the disks did their job and when done I did as asked and resterted my comp. It loaded normally and even went to the Windows logo. Unfortunately, it remained stuck there for over 20 minutes. Impatiently, I held down the power button to restart it. It loads up fine, showing the dell symbol and everything. Except when it shifts to go to the Windows logo it gives me a black screen with a blinking underscore in the top left corner.
What happened? Please, someone help me out here...

Solution
remove all partitions on the drive before reinstalling, you might have some bad sectors on the disk. before completely reinstalling, you might also try booting into repair mode from your windows cd and running chkdsk with the /f option.
