Hey guys,
First post on here so if this is in the wrong place, please move it to the correct place :)

I've had this problem since Monday night, and for the first time in my life, I've not been able to diagnose the problem.

Basically, Monday night I was trying to install Hackintosh Mountain Lion on my PC (Its a legit version of Mountain Lion) - this ultimately failed, but it had a worse knock on effect. Even though whilst I was attempting to install ML, my C:\ drive was unplugged, when I put my computer back together again, it wouldn't boot.into Windows. Not in Safe Mode or after a System restore. The only way I could get in again was using Startup repair. This allowed me to get into Windows. I thought it was fixed, but I was wrong, My computer randomly froze. The mouse still worked like normal, changing depending on what I was hovering over, but nothing else was happening. A restart just prevented it from booting, and this time, not even startup repair would fix the issue.I reinstalled Windows 8, but the install failed - multiple times (this was because of a corrupt disk) but once I re downloaded 8.1 and put it on a bootable USB it worked fine (Downloaded from MSDNAA) - for a while. After I installed Chrome, I was just getting my graphics drivers back, and it froze again. This has happened multiple times now, luckily I've been able to back everything up that I want to keep on another drive.

Things I've tried:
Disk Error checking: 0 errors
Mem Test: 0 Errors
Formatted and reinstalled on my C:\ drive, same happens again.
Tried installing it on another HDD, same happens.

System spec:
Intel Core i5-2570k @ 3.40GHz
Asus P8Z77-V-LX
16GB-1600MHz DDR3
Windows 8.1-64GB

tl;dr: Windows keeps freezing (with mouse still moving) then has a hard time rebooting back to Windows after multiple re installs of Windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, because I just don't know what to attempt anymore
If you need any more info, please let me know.

Thanks,
Nick

@Anon: Yea, one drive hooked up, a 500gb drive with my C:\ drive and another partition for my games, and yeah its first in boot.
@HiTechObsessed: Yea, they are: CPU running at +37.0 and MoBo at +25.0.
I do have a dedicated GPU, its a MSI Radeon 7870. (Sorry, should have mentioned that) The BIOS is in AHCI mode as default and BIOS is in optimal settings.
My PSU is Cooler Master 550w (Not sure on model number, my apologies

Can you try removing the GPU and running off of integrated graphics for a while? This will take a lot of power strain off the PSU. Would like to see if this does anything, will help us see if it's a bad PSU.

And about the BIOS, I still recommend resetting it by unplugging the CPU and removing the CMOS battery.

Hi again (Sorry, had work 6-10) I've just unplugged my GPU and reset the CMOS, Windows is currently reinstalling.

I'm not convinced its a hardware error, however. When I got back in, I powered my W8 laptop up, and I had EXACTLY the same issue. Freezing then not rebooting.

Currently I'm on my Lubuntu netbook, but I'm worried in case its a networked Virus..

[UPDATE] So, my PC appears to be running okay, for now. W8 has reinstalled fine, with one drive hooked up and no dedicated GPU. Laptop is still pretty much dead though..
