So i just got my TP-Link 150mbps High Grain usb adapter and i tested my download speed online at speedtest.net and it test 10mbps (not the best, i need to upgrade my router) but anyways, i decided i'd download a game, and its peak download speed is 1.8mbps, and on my laptop, the same game was 2.2-2.4mbps. I seriously doubt that my laptop had a better adapter than the one im using for my desktop, so i'm wondering if you know what could be going on because those download speeds are just not acceptable.

Thanks

How many antennas does your USB adapter have? A laptop can typically have between 1 and 3, depending on the adapter. The antenna are located in the screen. If your USB adapter has only one antenna and your laptop has two, then I'm not surprised. Also consider the location. If your laptop has fewer obstacles between itself and the router than the desktop, that may contribute to improved performance.

the adapter only has one antenna, but people said great reviews about it and what not so i went ahead and got it, i kinda regret it now because its not that much faster than the 10 year old adapter i was using to get me by. The osbstacles in the way are the same amount, the desktop is in the same room the laptop was. i do have 5 bars and a 94-100% connection, im thinking its the router because my adapter is 11n and my router is 11g, not sure if that actually matter but it seems like it would
