It is hard to predict the future but based off of history, Nvidia has always stayed 2 steps ahead of AMD. We are aproaching the point where we wont have room to add more transistors to a card or improve die sizes. At that point new, higher performance materials (ie: pure carbon) will have to be instituted for graphics processing to continue to progress. In other words, I think AMD will catch up to Nvidia in the current concept of video cards but Nvidia will be moving on to a complete new architecture than what we see on the market now.
