I have an asus laptop N55SL or something like that.
It has a Core i5-2450M @2.5 ghz but it gets up to 3.1ghz
It has an Nvidia GT635M gpu which has 2gb of vram
and intergrated Intel 3000 bullshit.
It has 4gb of ram

now ive had this laptop for a year. when i first got it games played great. i have played saints row 3 and 4 at medium to high fine, it was perfect. i can play call of duty games fine. fallout new vegas with a fuckton of graphical mods. i realised that its now totally obsolete for new games as i tried battlefield 4 and only got about 30fps on medium. i used to be able to play unreal tournament 3 fine as well at high settings FOR HOURS...

Now i recently got very sloppy, VERY SLOPPY INDEED... i let my sister use my laptop ontop of a blanket, i dowloaded loads of freeware and slipped up on the ad laced installer and there was a ton of redundant bloatware, LOADS OF IT. so i reset the laptop to the factory partition. thinking i could go back to the good old days. im trying to play ut3 again and it works great on highest.... FOR THE FIRST MINUTE OR SO. then its gets real down and dirty with the fps, its laggy and jerky and shitty. i have lowered the video settings to the lowest possible it makes no difference after about 1 minute it goes down to the pit of despair. i got gpuz and cpuid,

gpu load stays at about 50% for 20 seconds the goes lower to around 30%,
cpu usage gets up to maybe 50% usage
dedicated memory usage gets up to a max of 94MB
dynamic memory usage gets to a max of 30MB
i cant get a reading of ram usage during gameplay

i have checked parked cores with park control. and disabled it.
i have manually changed the registry values of max and min parking
the gpu temp get pretty high up to 95 Celsius
i have driver fusioned away the gpu drivers and installed the newest ones.
i have also tried mw3 out on this newest factory reset and it runs like a top.

WHAT IS GOING ON

Reaching high temps will cause your CPU/GPU to throttle down giving you a low performance like you've experienced, what you need is to get your CPU/GPU coolers clean and any air intake spot in your laptop, over the year they accumulate dust which reduces the airflow thus raising their temps.

You could either do it yourself (google around for guides, better if there's one for your laptop model) or get your laptop to some technical support center.

Right the laptop is quiet old by your own admission.
just like everything else the internal fans and cooling block inside become clogged with dust.

The dust blocks the airflow from the fan through the cooling blocks placed in front of the fan.

Anyway if the gpu is reaching 95c then the result is the clock speed of the card reduces in speed giving you a low frame rate.

It is clocking down so it can cool down.

Good to see that was the issue, no idea if you can pick both... up to you, remember to make this a periodical maintenance of your laptop, at least every 6 months would be good.

I cannot believe that earlier today i couldnt play for 5 minutes with 6 bots and now im playing with 32 at high settings for ages just for the sake of dust... thanks so much
