i took the advice here and got a PowerColor AX7750 1GBD5-DH Radeon HD 7750 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - OEM
i was told here and from dell that my power supply was enough.
the card keeps putting the monitor into sleep mode or i get a notice that the card driver stopped but has started again.
the first issue is the worse of the 2 as i have to power down the computer and restart.
i talked to tech support at powercolor and before i bought it they also said it was okay with a 350w power supply.
today they told me that wouldn't work
i wondered if anyone here had any idea what i could do
my computer is a dell studio 540 quad core q8300 @j2.5 ghz
6gb ram64 bit
also the computer when it starts, often now goes to a blue screen and says it is attempting to write to a read only>>>> sorry the screen goes away too quickly for me to get more

I would imagine your PC might need some cleanup. Installing a new card and driver probably took it 'over the edge' if it was badly corrupted. Start by uninstalling the gxf driver (Catalyst) in Control Panel/Programs and Features.

Run CCleaner and do the Clean and Registry portions both. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner (You may have to run it more than once if the system is badly corrupted)

Then run Driver Sweeper from Safe Mode and have it remove any Nvidia, AMD, and ATI graphic driver remnants it finds. http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4266-driver-sweeper.html

Re-boot and install the latest driver for your card and operating system. http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/downloads.aspx

i am sorry for the delay we had a family health emergency i tried the advice above to the letter, however, the issue still exists
the blue screen saysit attmepted to restart the display driver and recover from a timeout but failed, then restarts,
i does seem that if the computer is runningfor a couple of hours this occurs frequently(within 15-20 minutes of the first issue)
i am talkiing to you with the new card disabled, powercolor tech told me the power supply was not enough,it is 350watts.
do you think that may be the issue, they told me that it was fine before i bought it though

Sorry to hear of your family health issue. Hope all is well.
Can you read the nameplate on the PSU? I need to know the +12V ratings. Both the amps and the watts listed for the +12V rail. In lieu of that, maybe you could tell me the make/model of the PSU. It would have to be a very cheap, low quality "350W" PSU for it to not handle the 55W gfx card.
