Dell Inspiron 530 Pentium Dual Core CPR

Hello,
We have a Dell Inspiron 530 Pentium Dual Core, 2.60 GHz, 2.59 GHz RAM. Our IT person is going to take off Windows XP and put on Windows 7 instead of purchasing a new computer. Is this a sensible thing to do? Will we need more GHz or RAM, or will we be okay?

as long as it has 2 gig of ram a pentium dual core will handle windows 7 for general tasks. I will just look at the machine.

ntel Pentium Dual Core E5300 / 2.6 GHz ?
3 gig ram? If yes,
The machine originaly shipped with vista, Yours was reverted to xp.
It will run 7 fine.
7 goes like the clappers with 3 gig of ram.

Well, we have several apps open at once (Word, Excel, Publisher), and many browsers as well as we use Salesforce and Contact Beacon, and one other event management online system. Should we get one or two more gigs of RAM?

Oh, and yes, I think someone made it be XP instead of Vista.

I would advise 'seeing how you go'! However, you can run 4 x 1 gig, maximum supported ram. you could also upgrade the processor to an E8400,or E8500 , which would be about 50% faster. But thats getting ahead of things a bit.

It seems that if we were to upgrade the processor too, we should just buy a whole new desktop - they're pretty cheap now days.

The 8400's go for £20. ($33) the ram is £2. ($3).
A cheap office pc will cost £300. . (400 odd $ )

But, I think the machine will be ok as it is.
