Hi Forum,

My question isnt too complicated depending on how you look at it...

I built a new computer and have had it up for about a month now. Specs:

i7 4770k @ 4.2ghz and tested to be stable with intelburntest/intel extreme tuning
gigabyte g1 sniper m5
16gb corsair dom plat 2133 set at XMP and memtested to be stable
sandisk extreme ii ssd
780 Ti evga SC

Alright, the problem im having is on boot up. When i hit the power button on my 350D the computer boots up like normal screen stays black, mouse lights up, but before it hits windows (8.1 btw) boot up the computer just shuts off. No reboot/power cycling, just shuts right off. Ok, weird right? On 2nd hit of the power button, it boots perfectly fine into windows, this happen quite often and for the past few days is consistent. So basically i have to do two boot ups to hit windows. Im sure its a BIOS issue from what i have googled, but unlike the cases that i google, im not having cycling issues just a boot fail, and then 2nd boot completes. I am on the latest F7 BIOS for the board because although i didnt "have to" i updated from i think F3 to the newest and as far as i know everything was successful.

Ive been playing AC4 and some BF4 with no windows instability, game crashes, or BSOD's (except for initial tweaking of OC settings but its been pretty stable thus far) So the first thing i thought of would be to reflash to an older BIOS or possibly use the backup BIOS to see if anything changes. I have cleared the CMOS mulitple times and that has not fixed the problem. Looking for suggestions if anyone has some input, thank you. This is not a super urgent problem as i can still use my computer but a mild annoyance :)

Solution
can be two issues. one the gpu or a part is pulling to much power at first post causing the power supply or motherboard anti surge feature to shut off the system for safety. start with the gpu..pull it see if at cold boot the same issues happens with the on-board gpu. if it does. try pulling the case and usb cables. make sure just the keyboard and mouse are connected. see if the error stops.if it does check to see what plugged into the usb and or fan ports. to many devices on the usb port at post can cause a shut down of the mb. the other issue is the power supply to weak or is failing below atx voltage.

ill try that and get back to you tomorrow when im able to have time. I have a xfx pro 750w black edition and its in hybrid mode for fanless ops. i do have an external DAC and my other perihperals plugged in so will try vid card and the 2nd option.

Alright, pulling vid card and usb attachments did nothing. What did fix it so far is flipping the switch to fan mode from hybrid fan mode on my PSU. I was running hybrid mode on my xfx 750w. I dont see why that would cause issues but everything seems fine now :/ weird.
