Team Fortress 2: How do you play this game?!

I am a long time Battlefield guy but was looking for something simpler gaming wise. Figured I would give this game a try...it owns me...like really bad. I haven't even gotten passed the normal bots. I find myself getting K/D ratios in the 0.25. Any suggestions for new players?

Practice Practice Practice. It is not meant to be an easy game. It's fun to play, but boring to play alone. Get some of your friends to play with you so it's fun

Maybe play as a mechanic and focus on building some defenses on an online match? Might sound boring but it's not.

Its like Counter Strike with weird stuff and weapons. Each class have different weapons and health so suit your playing style with class. If you're a strafer then go with scout they move fast and can double jump, if you're a sniper then go with sniper. If you still have trouble knowing what style suit you try each class first.
