80+ rating is meant more for businesses that will have 5000 computers running them 24/7. The difference in electricity cost for the average user between a Platinum rating and no rating is minimal. It's just that most 80+ bronze and up are generally made with higher quality parts also. The VP 450 is made with quality parts, just doesn't happen to be extra-efficient.

The Active PFC of an 80+ power supply stabilizes voltages and tends to keep them inside a tighter range across different total loads . Its pretty much essential for modern processors .
The antec VP is as good as any non Active PFC power supply can be . But its not really ideal .

The OP should get a better power supply . Ideally one rated 80+ bronze or better
