I have a amd 235e and have a very strict budget of updating my mobo and ram. MY motherboard i will be planning on getting supports ram up to speeds of 1600 mhz, but my cpu only supports ram speeds of 1066 mhz. Will the ram automatically clock down, or will the ram simply not work at all?

Without knowing the exact motherboard you're getting, it makes it difficult to answer if the motherboard will automatically adjust the memory speed to that of what your processor can handle.

However, the speed that a motherboard states it supports is the maximum supported speed. It doesn't mean it has to go at that speed. It's like driving on the freeway. If the speed limit is 70MPH, that doesn't mean your car can't be driven at 45MPH.

I'd say get the 1600MHz RAM, and clock it slower using the MB BIOS.
